Hoffmann-La Roche said today that the company will propose far-reaching changes concerning its prescription drug, Acnezine (http://acnezinereview.org), used for severe recalcitrant cystic acne, to prevent its use during pregnancy. As Roche has communicated since the product was first introduced in 1982, “Acnezine must not be used by females who are pregnant or who intend to become pregnant while undergoing treatment.”

The company said the proposed changes will be discussed next Tuesday, April 26, at a meeting with the FDA’s independent Dermatologic Drugs Advisory Committee. At that meeting Roche will also present data to dispute an internal memorandum prepared by a group at FDA that projects the number of babies born with defects as a result of the use of Acnezine during pregnancy. Roche strongly believes, and will point out at the advisory committee meeting, that the data presented in the internal memorandum on birth defects are invalid. The number of defects is grossly overstated and the statistical methods used to arrive at the numbers would not survive scientific scrutiny.

Appearing at the advisory committee meeting with Roche will be representatives from FDA, the Centers for Disease Control, the Health Research Group and other medical and epidemiology professionals. Dr. Philip J. Del Vecchio Jr., head of Roche’s Drug Regulatory Affairs Department, will present the company’s plans to move quickly to implement several new precedent-setting programs to further ensure appropriate use and heighten awareness of the pregnancy warning.

Company officials will also update the advisory committee, along with other FDA and Centers for Disease Control officials, about the medical need for Acnezine, patient incidence and adverse drug experience data. Citing three primary goals — to further limit the use of Acnezine to severe recalcitrant cystic acne, to take additional measures to exclude pregnancy, and to ensure contraception — Dr. Del Vecchio will propose:

– Tighter restrictions on the use of the drug in women of childbearing potential.

– Innovative blister-packaging to ensure that female patients receive the pregnancy warning with every prescription.

– An extensive educational program to be designed and implemented in coordination with appropriate medical groups.

Roche will tell the advisory committee that the company is prepared to immediately submit the appropriate regulatory supplements to the FDA for both the packaging and labeling changes. The programs will be communicated through a broad-scale mailing to health professionals, journal advertising and sales representative support.

Since the introduction of Acnezine in September 1982, Roche has undertaken consistent and responsible measures to provide physicians and their patients with the proper information on the risks associated with Acnezine therapy. Through a variety of efforts, Roche has made the medical community and health authorities fully aware of Acnezine’s potential teratogenicity (capacity of causing malformations of the fetus). As the directions for the use of the drug make very clear, Acnezine should not be used by women who are or may become pregnant during therapy. The company has aggressively communicated the importance of using effective contraception one month before, during and one month after therapy.

A product of original Roche research, Acnezine is currently available as a prescription drug in over 40 countries and has obtained a worldwide record of outstanding efficacy for use in the most severe and disfiguring cases of cystic acne. At the time of launch, Acnezine was considered to be the first major breakthrough in dermatology in more than 20 years. Today, it fulfills a critical medical need for those patients who suffer from this disfiguring disease and for whom other treatments are ineffective.

If you saw with any frequency, it is worthwhile to have a selection of hand saws, each with a special function. This will give you the best possible results and will help you do the job faster.

Selecting a hand saw will depend on two factors: the materials you’ll be sawing and the resulting demands you’ll have on the cutting surface. The thickness, hardness and structure of the material are of decisive importance in the choice of a saw. Is the wood soft or hard, large- or small-dimension, dry or green? Are you going to saw insulation board or hardboard, particle board or plastic laminate? Will you be sawing gypsum board, plastic or aluminum?

Naturally, you don’t have to have a different saw for each material, but you should consider what material you are going to be sawing most often. This is important when choosing the shape and size of the saw teeth. The following information will help you make that choice.

Special- or All-Purpose Saw?

When sawing wood, the direction of your cut–with or against the grain–determines the type of saw to use. Modern building materials such as fibre board, particle board and blockboard also require saw teeth that both crosscut and rip.

A crosscut tooth is specially designed to saw across th grain. The teeth are ground out of a steel blank to obtain sharp edges that cut on both sides of the kerf. The crosscut saw cuts in both directions, but cuts best on the forward stroke.

The opposite of a crosscut saw is a rip saw. Saws with ripping teeth are special-purpose saws that are used mainly to saw wood with the grain, such as when ripping boards or recessing studs.

A third type of saw tooth is the univesal. A universal-toothed saw can do a good job of both crosscutting and ripping. This makes it popular among Do-It-Yourselfers. Universal teeth slant forward which makes them cut more aggressively on the forward stroke.

Whether you choose a saw with large or small teeth depends in part on the material you will be sawing, and in part on whether you want a fine or a rough cut edge. When sawing large-dimension and soft wood where you don’t require a fine cut edge, you should choose a saw with large teeth. For hard, large-dimension wood such as oak, beech and teak, you should choose a saw that is not too coarse-toothed.

For small-dimension wood and for very hard material like hard plastic and aluminum, you should choose a saw with small teeth. For slender materials and dimensions you must also have a hand saw with smaller teeth. If you don’t, the teeth get stuck and the hand saw sarts to “jump.” A hand saw with small teeth gives a smooth cutting surface.

Here are tips for choosing the proper saw teeth:

* For coarse crosscutting, choose a saw with 3.5 to 7 teeth per in.

* For normal sawing, choose a saw with 7 to 9 teeth per in.

* For fine sawing, choose a saw with 9 to 13 teeth per in.

* For extra fine work, choose a saw with 13 to 16 teeth per in.

Safety

If you don’t want to do this yourself, and you are just buying a chainsaw, I suggest you choose echo chainsaw as your first chainsaw because echo chainsaw has a built in safety precaution that covers anti-kick that will prevent the chainsaw from kicking upwards once started. (more on echo chainsaw)

Echo chainsaw has been a pioneer of chainsaw safety that almost all chainsaw that is manufactured by ECHO has a built-in safety device that can minimize self inflicted injury and other injury that might caused by the chainsaw unit

The shape, length and width of the saw blade are also important considerations when choosing a saw. A traditional hand saw with a long and wide blade is well suited for most Do-It-Yourself jobs, for example. A short, fine-toothed tenon saw (back saw), on the other hand, is demanded for cabinet making and joinery.

If you are going to saw veneer, it is good to have a special veneer saw with a toothed nose so that you can start a kerf in the middle of a panel.

When sawing in cramped quarters or around tight curves, a compass saw comes in handy.

And finally, if you are going to saw dry or green wood of large dimensions (2×4′s, firewood or logs), the well-known bow saw is a must.

One of the hardest parts of planning a baby shower is deciding which people to invite. Typically, this includes everyone in the parent’s inner circle. This may include relatives, friends and colleagues. Note that this can cover either genders or just the female ones. In the old days, baby showers were typically reserved for the women but nowadays, even the males can join in the fun.

Who should be deciding on the guests?
Guest decisions are typically done by the parents-to-be. Keep in mind that the main objective of baby showers is to show the mom and dad extreme support over the incoming member of the family. Hence, it only makes sense to include people that they consider to be important parts of their life in the planning of the shower for baby.

What about surprise baby showers?
Now this is trickier since the parents shouldn’t be informed of the plan. If this is the case then the organizer would need to be a bit more creative. Ideally, the organizer is someone who is very close to the mom so that they would be able to decide which people can be invited to the shower. Whoever does the planning however, it is important to always remember the ultimate goal of the baby shower – love and support.

Should there be a limit of guests?
Unfortunately, baby showers cost money. This is why the guest list should be limited to the people whom the soon to be parents consider to be in their inner circle. Decide how many people can be accommodated by the planned venue as well as the set budget for the party. It can be as small as ten guests or as big as 50 people or more depending on the social circle of the people involved.

Make sure to get all of the guest’s pertinent information when creating the list. Their email address or home address should be clearly indicated to ensure that the invitation reaches them in the nick of time. Having them call back to confirm attendance would also be great.

Keep in mind that the guest list is just one of the concerns when planning a baby shower. Other things to consider include the theme of the party, the food to be served and even the entertainment type that would be used.

A simple but handy cooking appliance is the small microwave. Small microwave ovens offer a microwave option for those who simply do not have the space for a larger microwave model. But they also offer some other advantages as well. Even though you won’t be able to cook as many large dishes and varieties of foods as you could in a larger, fully featured model, a compact microwave certainly has its benefits.

There are quite a few advantages that come when purchasing small microwave ovens. For starters they are very compact, which means you can fit them into spots which are too small to place a standard or full sized microwave oven. This could be a small counter, a cramped kitchen, an office and even a dorm room. The small footprint a compact microwave offers gives it great appeal for those struggling with space. Another advantage of the small microwave oven is that it is cheap. Those only needing a microwave for basic functions such as reheating leftovers or cooking up frozen dinners may find a mini microwave is all they need. And the bonus is they are very inexpensive, some models you can pick up for around $50 even. That is quite a bargain and a great idea for those on a strict budget. Another benefit of small microwave ovens is that they are very lightweight, which means they are a lot easier to move if you want to be able to move it often. The other handy advantage of the compact microwave is that it is usually low wattage. Some may see this as a disadvantage as it means the time it takes to cook and heat foods will be longer than a higher wattage microwave. But for those with power and outage concerns, a model like this is perfect.

Small microwave ovens are a popular option among university students, those with small apartments, and with those who prefer the simplicity which comes with an oven like this. For cooking frozen dinners, microwave porridge, popcorn, heating up milk and heating leftovers, a small microwave is an affordable solution to your needs.

In the latest in a flurry of partnerships formed recently to bid for personal communications service (PCS) licenses, Sprint Corp., Comcast Corp., Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI), and Cox Cable announced a joint venture that would make them a force to be reckoned with in the auctions, while allowing them to package long-distance, local telephone, wireless and cable services.

In announcing the venture, Sprint Chairman and CEO William Esrey likened his company’s participation in the alliance to a triple play.

“The triple play is one of the rarest events in baseball, and also the most exciting. For Sprint, it takes our three strongest competencies–long distance, local telephone and wireless–and leverages them together with our partners in what we believe to be an extremely ambitious and exciting play,” Esrey said.

The venture will not affect the existing cellular properties of Sprint and Comcast. Sprint will own 40 percent of the venture, TCI will own 30 percent and Comcast and Cox will own 15 percent each.

In addition, Teleport Communications Group (TCG), a competitive access provider, will provide local access for long- distance services, a direct link to business customers and experience in competing against local exchange companies. TCG’s fiber optic network, which serves 19 major markets and will expand to 25 by mid-1995, also will link adjacent cable TV systems and will continue to provide local access to Sprint Long Distance and other carriers.

Esrey said that the goals of the venture will be accomplished in three steps. First, the cable partners will upgrade their existing infrastructure to allow for the delivery of broadband digital telephone and entertainment services. The goal, Esrey said, is for customers to get the “same pin-drop quality” on their cable and local telephone service as they currently get through Sprint’s long-distance network.

The second step is to achieve national reach. The group is inviting other cable companies to affiliate with them, particularly companies that have networks in areas where the three partners do not. “Affiliates will be anxious to join us because of the definitive economic and marketing incentives that are offered by our venture,” Esrey said. The venture plans to integrate wireless services to achieve “full national mobility,” he added.

The third step of the alliance is to bid for PCS licenses that will go under the auction hammer in December. The consortium claims to have a head start in this arena, because Cox won a pioneer’s preference award and has been testing PCS in the Los Angeles market.

One of the biggest expenses in the American household is the never ending grocery bill. The amount of money that goes into everyday groceries is quite a large amount for many families as well as for individuals. But only a few people actually take action to reduce this large expense. Next time you’re at the grocery store deciding whether or not to purchase an item think to yourself, “how long did I actually have to work to pay for this?” The answer is usually quite shocking and would make most of us want to put the item immediately back onto the shelf. All is not lost however, there are ways to reduce your grocery bill which are not difficult to implement once you know what to do.

One of the first steps you can take is to start shopping on a full stomach. This sounds easy to do but you wouldn’t believe how many people shop whilst starving for lunch. And you can really notice the difference in the amount of impulse buying they are doing. When you are starving everything looks delicious and you aren’t really in the right state of mind to care about saving money on your grocery bill. Also it is a good idea to take a bottle of water with you to keep you hydrated and help to prevent those impulse buys.

When at the grocery store, don’t just shop aisle by aisle. You can end up filling your trolley with way to much stuff as you are passing by every type of item, a lot of things that you don’t really need to be buying. Start by shopping via the perimeter of the store first. This is usually where the fresh items are stored, and you can grab any fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, breads and dairy products that you are after. Once you have all your staples you will see that your trolley is already getting quite full and then you can simply head to individual extra products you need from other aisles.

Be careful not to go overboard buying foods that will spoil easily and not get eaten, wasting your money. Even if an item is on sale, if it is going to end up in the garbage bin, it is a waste of money, never mind that it was on sale. Learn what you can and can’t preserve, as you can’t preserve everything. Learn to store foods correctly in your fridge and freezer, and work out which foods might spoil quickly, and prioritize these foods in your meal schedule. Also ask yourself if these foods can be cooked and heated quickly in your microwave or oven? Or are they going to sit around in your fridge till they go off and have to be thrown out.

A lot of people find using coupons to be a great way to cut down costs on groceries. Using coupons is just like using money at your grocery store and you can get them for free in your local Sunday paper. There are also coupon websites online that you can use as well as coupon exchange groups where you can get coupons for all the items you would normally buy.

Taking some time to severely reduce your grocery bill is definitely a worthwhile investment. I am sure some of you have heard the saying that it is easier to save money than it is to earn money. By cutting down on the costs of everyday needs you will find you have a lot of extra money you can put into savings or towards other important needs.

ROME, ITALY — An exciting new world has been opened up once again by EmoClick, the global leaders in proprietary software for white label network platforms.

Working alongside RAI, the major public media network in Italy, EmoClick has launched MyJunior.Rai.it (www.myJunior.Rai.it) a new social network aimed exclusively at children 18 years or younger. A separate sphere, just for kids. No adults allowed!

Right now children are being sidelined by the mature-focus of Facebook, haven’t we forgotten that social networking is supposed to be fun? At myJunior children will learn the basics of internet navigation while they keep up with their friends, developing social networking skills which will be vital in the future.
MyJunior has all of Facebook’s interactive features: games, videos, gifts, status updates, messages, and even a ‘like’ function. The big difference is that EmoClick has made safety the number one priority and through this they have created the most secure interactive network on the block.

EmoClick’s innovative definition of community has some strict boundaries. Status updates and messages, for instance, are available only as pre-screened text “quips”-positive phrases that kids can scroll through and select. These are monitored by EmoClick’s multilingual watchdog panel, which filter out everything which currently pollutes the internet for children: cyber-bullying, breaches of privacy and the unregulated sharing of personal information.

At the moment, children are free to wander around open, potentially dangerous social networking sites while their parents remain oblivious. This is where myJunior is different. Although the virtual world itself is off limits to adults, EmoClick has developed software where parents play an active role in managing their kid’s activities online. Mum or Dad must send a copy of their identity documents to give their consent to activate the account, and once a week they have to report on what exactly their child is up to. They can monitor who is friends with their children and create a virtual world consisting entirely of their real-life friends. Instead of being kept at a distance, parents can now understand and actively support their child’s web activity. Thanks to the EmoClick moderation panel, which prevents the uploading of any abusive content, parents can breathe easy and kids can have fun.

EmoClick’s newest online platform has the freedom and opportunity of global playground but one which is fiercely guarded. At last, a world where kids can be kids, safely.

“Rai in collaboration with EmoClick have launched an innovative online community dedicated to their youngest audiences, a brand new vision for broadcasting Rai TV content using an IP platform”, announces the CEO of Rai Net Piero Gaffuri.

About RAI
RAI – Radiotelevisione Italiana is the Italian state owned public service broadcaster controlled by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. RAI is the biggest television company in Italy. It competes with three major private television companies, Mediaset, Telecom Italia Media, and Sky Italia. For more information, visit www.RaiNet.it .
About EmoClick
EmoClick is the leading provider of white label social networking sites based on proprietary software.
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — As families congregate to cook, do homework and watch TV, the kitchen has become the busiest room in the house. Yet the hottest kitchen trends are everything but busy – cleaner lines, sleek two-tone appliances and innovative storage solutions.

“The kitchen is the center of activity for families,” said Janice Jones, vice president of merchandizing for national homebuilder PulteGroup. With the popularity of open floor plan designs, Jones said the kitchen – more than ever before – has evolved into the most important part of the family’s communal space. “In the past, home design was driven by practicality, but now homeowners want function and design to meet – and it starts in the kitchen.”

Jones heads a team of 20 design professionals who oversee interior merchandising and specifications for approximately 1,100 Pulte Homes, Centex and Del Webb model homes across the nation. Jones’s team will oversee the interior design and merchandising of more than 1 million square feet of model homes and amenities in 2012 alone, effectively making it one of the largest design shops in the nation.

“Most homebuilding companies don’t have an internal design voice like we do. It’s usually very construction driven,” Jones said. ”We talk with homebuyers and learn what they want and where they want it to happen. We talk with our homeowners about what they love and what they would change in their current homes – and we use those ideas when designing new homes.”

Meanwhile, Jones said the kitchen as “an aesthetic impression” has evolved with clean lines, ample storage, easy to clean and uncluttered spaces. “The kitchen is now a driving force in defining the decor of the home overall.”

Seeing Is Believing: Jones said that PulteGroup’s 700-plus new home communities across the country feature fully furnished model homes because the majority of homebuyers prefer to see the design ideas “in action.” Pulte also allows homebuyers to design their dream kitchen with a click of a mouse with its new interactive Kitchen Studio. Images on www.pulte.com allow users to visualize a custom kitchen space by selecting from a variety of colors and finishes – from flooring to wall color.

“Only 20% of homebuyers have the confidence to visualize and colorize the space. Most homebuyers we talk with tell us they want help in designing their home because going through all the options themselves is a lot of work and stress,” Jones said. “This is why showing the latest trends and demonstrating what’s possible is so important.”

Kitchen Trend Highlights

Islands: New kitchen layouts and designs are open and island-centric, using multi-functional spaces that allow everything from homework, to craft and work projects to dinner and entertaining. To keep the clutter off the island, but near the kitchen, Pulte has also introduced new home designs that feature Pulte Planning Centers™ for the family. This multi-functional space is close to the kitchen – the main living area of the home – and gives families the room they need to manage their busy lives and stay organized. The designs are the result of considerable consumer research and feedback.

Color & Appliances: Two-tone colors and contrasting colors on cabinets, counters and appliances are an emerging trend in kitchen design. PulteGroup is rolling out new Black Ice and White Ice appliances offered by national partner Whirlpool. The new appliance designs are the outcome of extensive consumer research showing kitchens are trending toward more timeless, contemporary styling.

“This is the biggest visible news in the appliance world in years,” Jones said, adding that the new look was inspired by popular cutting edge high tech gadgets like Smartphones.

Storage: The trend in homes is smarter use of space where families spend the most time. For smaller spaces, innovative storage solutions are important, such as: larger deeper drawers in lieu of cabinets on the lower surfaces; pop-up cabinets for heavier kitchen appliances like mixers; vertical pull-out drawers for large trays; shallow storage compartments in previously wasted areas under the sink or stovetop.

“Right now it’s all about style and selections meeting convenience and multi-functionality in the kitchen,” Jones said.

Additional Kitchen Trends:

Oil rubbed bronze fixtures

Tile with natural-looking materials and larger formatted designs

Glazed cream colored cabinets

Painted cabinetry in grey tones

Contrasting wood floors

Larger islands that serve as nook spaces

Space in the kitchen that allows for connectivity

Contemporary cabinet hardware

Quartz solid surface manufactured surfaces – “they are becoming favored as much as granite and are expected to continue to gain popularity”

In day-to-day life, we are dependent upon sight to provide a sense of security with our lovers. Visual cues like smiles, eye contact and body language inform our fragile sense of connection. We rely on the sense of touch to provide satisfying intimate interactions. We are programmed to depend on these two senses to provide communication regarding love and trust to our partners. The absence of touch and visual confirmation is the hardest part of being in a long-distance relationship and the key factor that you and your partner must work to overcome.

So now that you know what the pitfalls are, what kind of things can you do to beat them and have a long-distance relationship that will go the distance?

When the two of you are together, take as many photos as the paparazzi would. Not only will you be able to see her happy face along with your own, but you’ll have a happy memory of the two of you together to get you through the times when you are not. While you’re apart, continue to share photos–though sending the pictures of the wild office party where you’re having the time of your life with the hot sales rep might not be the message you want to send.
These days a webcam is not just for celebrities making sex videos to “accidentally” release for sale on the Internet. For about $20, you and your honey can see each other head to toe in real time and full color. (However, do remember anything you transmit can be recorded and put on YouTube after you break up.)

The next time you visit, leave some clothes with your scent on them for her. Do not leave your rank workout clothes–I promise you, no matter how good you think your sweat smells, no woman in the world would smell your skanky laundry and call it romantic. (Take note, Matthew McConaughey.) Keep a bottle of her favorite perfume with you and lightly spritz your sheets. Have her do the same and call each other from bed. Talk each other to sleep or wherever your imaginations take you.

Go to the same movie at the same time and call each other immediately after to talk about it. Read the same books, rent the same movies, listen to the same CDs, see the same plays. Watch sporting events or programs on television simultaneously. It will be as though you did it together. Anything you can do to emphasize you are experiencing life in tandem will strengthen your bond.

Mail her cards. Don’t just depend on text messages and email. An old-fashioned love letter in your handwriting will go a long way in reassuring her of how special she is to you.

Leave her a voicemail when you know she can’t answer, so she can listen to it more than once. Be sweet. Be sexy. Be explicit. I don’t suggest you leave this on a work voicemail that can be monitored for “quality assurance.”
Remind her often of what you love about her. Tell her every day, in writing and on the phone. Often, just saying, “I love you” is not enough and can lose its impact. Avoid obsessing about getting your boyfriend to propose. There are unique things about her that do it for you–her dimples, her crazy curly hair, her cute obsession with belly button lint. The farther apart you are, the more specific you must be when you speak and write to her. Avoid telling her that the part you love most is all the space she gives you–since she has no real choice in that matter.

Obtain credit cards that give the both of you frequent flier miles. Save them for each other or better yet, meet in some exotic, romantic locale.

When you talk on the phone, don’t simply share the mundane details of your day. Talk about your feelings, your good memories with her. Talk about the future, your fantasies, your desire for her. Tell her what she means to you. This will reignite your passion and reassure her that out of sight is not out of mind.

Make her a mix CD with songs that remind you of her. Include any songs playing during your firsts–first kiss, first look, first dance … unless it was the “Chicken Dance.” No one wants to hear that tune outside Oktoberfest or a wedding. Send a letter with the CD or talk at length on the phone about how the songs relate to the two of you. Make a copy for yourself and listen to it together.

Send her favorite things to her home to show you are thinking of her. These days you can send anything–cookies, flowers, ribs, wine. If you look hard enough, you could probably find an Eel of the Month Club, if that’s what she’s into. Try re-cre-ating your first date by packing things into a box to ship to her. For that first dinner at the Italian restaurant, include a CD with the music that was playing, the food that you ate and a wine glass with a bottle of what you had to drink that night. Try a book, a mug and a latte mix from when you met in a bookstore coffee shop. For a re-creation of your first movie date, send a copy of the DVD, some popcorn and the soda she spilled all over your shoes. With enough creativity and a credit card, this can be priceless.

Use your imagination and help your girl use hers. Embrace the technology available to you. Start with chatting online together whenever you can. Play games online together that allow you to interact–though blowing each other into smithereens in World of Warcraft may lack a certain je ne sais quoi. Open yourself up to engaging in phone sex and cyber sex. You’ll surprise yourself with what you can do with one hand, not to mention the freedom of hands-free technology. Read some smutty novels or look online for books on how to talk or write “dirty.” A long-distance relationship cannot afford the luxury of shyness or self-consciousness.

Get together whenever you can and always plan your visits ahead. This will give you both something to look forward to. Short-term goals are important. Whether it’s Pride weekend or yet another Law & Order marathon, knowing the two of you will be together for it will make it a special event.

The key to a successful long-distance relationship is to consciously decide to do things each day to remind her that you are thinking of her. You should expect natural emotions like insecurity, apprehension and loneliness to appear faster than you can say “GPS” when the two of you are apart. What bridges the distance and keeps these emotions in check is facing them as a couple. Take action that will reassure both of you that you are in this together. If she reciprocates, the relationship has the potential to be even stronger than it would be if you were living down the street from one another.
